Thank you for the explanation of acedia. I have heard the sin preached so many times as laziness, and I feel that message contributed to modern culture's obsession with productivity and the tension between messages of "take care of yourself and slow down" vs "you're never doing enough." I appreciate the clarification.
Ah—this is convicting: step in and do what God asks of one…. I typically consider that in the context of daily obedience, but I avoid the bigger, more challenging things…. This is a needed reminder for me.
"To hope is to get comfortable with the fact that you aren’t as happy as you are going to be." This really hits home. I've never heard it phrased this way, but it really shines a light on why making progress can be so hard sometimes--to make progress means acknowledging current shortcomings.
Excellent thoughts here, as they hit home and remind me what holds back my writing. But this time I didn’t feel discouraged by the exposure of my acedia. Thanks, Jonathan.
oh, thank you, thank you for this! So true....and something I wish I could share with some folks (the ones i would never be able to persuade to read it).

This could be a sermon. One I need to hear again and again this time of year.
This met me right where I needed it. Thanks, JR.
Thought provoking discussion of hope. I’m going to read it again, and I look forward to part 2.
Thank you. I really needed to see this today. ✝️❤️🌎
