I want to reinforce the habits of no tech before meeting with the Lord in the morning (so His voice and His love and truth are the first thing I hear) and then shutting down tech at a regular time so the evening grows quiet. I also want to work on a habit of keeping a diary... I want to journal more, but I am recognizing the need to just keep track of the more mundane things... small daily events, occurances and health things so I can recognize patterns and connections.

Have you ever heard of the book THE PIANO SHOP ON THE LEFT BANK? It’s a memoir by Thad Carhart about picking up playing piano again as an adult living in Paris. He weaves together fascinating piano history with his own story, which is just lovely.

I missed this episode when it first released, so thank you for sharing it again. One thing that struck with me is Earley’s statement that the difference between habits and liturgy is that liturgies admit that they’re about worship. Not an exact quote, but I think about that a lot since first hearing it in the audiobook. Can’t wait to listen to the episode!

One habit I’m hoping to drop is reaching for my phone out of boredom, but first I need to decide what I will do instead.

I pursue choices based on my beliefs and hopes. Choosing our own habits rather than following the habits of others can be a step in the right direction. Or, it might be another form of legalism. When Daniel's prayer habit became a choice, it became important. Could we make our prayers intentional instead of habitual? Sometimes kneeling, other times walking, occasionally pounding arrows on the ground? Could 'reigning in life' be our ultimate aspiration?
