Merry Christmas, all. I hope the quiet of this week after Christmas Day is doing good work in you. I’m keeping pretty quiet myself this week, but we’ll be back to full steam (and more) next week.
Meanwhile, I commend to you a song by Sandra McCracken, “The Space Between.” It’s specifically about this week of waiting and transition, and the truth that there is always more going on than we think—especially when things are quiet and fallow.
I especially love the bridge:
We bless the seeds under the snow.
We bless the patience, take it slow.
We bless the limits, bless the tears.
We bless the failures that brought us here.
Sandra had this to say by way of introduction:
The holidays can be really hard for people because they intensify our feelings of loneliness. There’s such a high expectation on the time with family and friends that often we feel disappointed after Christmas Day. But January is one of my favorite times of year because it feels like an opportunity to rethink things. ‘The Space Between’ is a reflective, joyful reminder to accept the discomfort of life transitions with grace. It is a call to see what’s next.
Yes and amen. Here’s the song:

I’m cooking up some good things for 2024, but this week is pretty quiet, except for the regularly scheduled virtual writing rooms.

Thanks so much. Helped me with Sunday’s sermon! I mention how the week between Christmas and New Year’s is like a liminal space.
Thank you for sharing that song! I really needed that perspective shift for this week!
