I'm leading a weekend for writers—February 9-10 in Nashville.
On February 9-10, 2024, I’ll be hosting a retreat for writers at North Wind Manor, the Rabbit Room's big beautiful house in Nashville. In the past, these retreats have been limited to members of The Habit Membership, but we’re opening this one up to any writer who wants to come.
We're still working on the schedule, but you can expect the following:
Teaching times (led by Jonathan Rogers)
Critique groups
Group writing activities/exercises
Opportunities to read your work aloud (and hear your colleagues read theirs)
Ample free time
Good meals
Plentiful snacks
A live recording of The Habit Podcast
I should clarify that this is not the kind of retreat where you have lots of quiet to work on your work-in-progress. Rather, it’s a weekend to connect with other writers, learn, be encouraged, encourage others, and go home feeling a little more equipped and energized to complete that work-in-progress—or tackle that work that isn’t in progress.
Our weekend together will start after lunch on Friday, February 9. Supper on Friday and all three meals on Saturday, plus snacks and drinks, are included in your registration fee. (Lodging is not included...North Wind Manor isn't that kind of event space.)
Our guiding principle in scheduling the weekend is one we've borrowed from Laity Lodge: "We have an agenda, but we don't have an agenda for you." That is to say, there will be plenty of activities on the docket (padded with free time in between), but nobody has any expectations regarding which of those activities you attend. If your time is better spent chatting with a friend or sitting on the porch with your notebook or sneaking off for a walk on the greenway, do that.
