One afternoon my neighbor Julie called her mother Sue to come get her from school. She had started feeling bad at lunch, she said, and couldn’t go on. So Sue took Julie home and left her in bed to recover. She didn’t have a fever. She wasn’t throwing up. She just felt bad, she said.
The next morning, Julie still wasn’t able to go to school. Still no fever or rash or vomiting. Nevertheless, she said she was in no shape for the rigors of a day at Miller Elementary.
When, on the third day, Julie was unable to #rise, her parents started to worry. Her mom sat on her bed and said, “Tell me what’s going on? Did something happen at school?”
“Yes,” said Julie. “At lunch, some boys were talking about shrimp bones, and it grossed me out so bad it made me sick. And every time I think about shrimp bones, I feel sick all over again.
Sue pulled Julie out of bed, got her dressed, and drove her straight to school.
